the use of force by william carlos williams

this is a story made interesting by the fact that there was an ongoing battle between the doctor and the girl, whom i pictured as a child whose age was six. well, the doctor won. that really was good to know. even though the girl supposedly suffered some form of defeat, she definitely was not stomped on. heck, probably her life had been saved. i think in the end, the victory belonged to the two. If the girl had won, then there wouldn't have any victory at all, i suppose. the doctor would have lunged into insanity, slapped to disgrace by his failure to even have a chance to make a diagnosis, and the girl would have died. yes, diphteria that was unattended to was probably never a laughing matter.

what the doctor did was the most expedient course of action, indeed. even so, he never appeared to be quite innocent or so much of darling. in fact, there was a trace of malice in his deed. apparently, he was enjoying every moment of that hostile encounter. at first, he was only irritated, and that seemed normal to me. and as time went by, a sadistic desire stirred in him. now that was not normal. but i guess it added some flavor to the whole story.

the use of force was justified. i concede to that. but what casts a shadow of doubt is the fact that the doctor appeared to be enjoying the whole process of physical coercion. well, the thing is, nothing's ever black and white. you just have to make a stand. and for me, whether he enjoyed it or not, he still saved the girl's life.

but he's still neurotic. or maybe it was just a deviation that happened only once. to be able to confirm that, i guess i have to read his diary. williams should have written something like that. it would have been downright interesting.
